We are pleased to offer two different sessions this year. Master Municipal Clerk and Workplace Conflict Resolution Certification. Both contain 18 hours of instruction and are worth 9 certification points. In addition, both are approved for 1.5 university extension credits from the University of California at Riverside (UCR).
MASTER MUNICIPAL CLERK AND CLERK OF THE BOARD ACADEMY
We are pleased to offer this Academy for the fifth year. This session is geared toward the City Clerks, Assistant and Deputy City Clerks, Clerks of the Board of Supervisors, and Special District Clerks working to obtain the MMC or CCB designation. The 18-hours of coursework are expected to garner participants 9 points. The curriculum is posted and course enrollments are now open. The training team is diverse and the curriculum offers technical and leadership development courses.
Registration is only $1100 and includes double hotel occupancy, all meals and snacks, and all session materials. Early Bird and Group Discounts are available.
WORKPLACE CONFLICT RESOLUTION CERTIFICATION
Nearly 60% of all voluntary resignations stem from unresolved conflict. With the imminent pinch on the local government workforce and the world’s workforce, organizations can no longer afford to be proving and training grounds for other municipalities.
Based on the work of Dr. Daniel Dana (the “Conflict Doctor”) and the Mediation Training Institute, this session will:
• Identify costs associated with unresolved conflict;
• Provide a base knowledge for dealing with conflict;
• Weave conflict resolution into your organizations strategy; and
• Teach you how to employ self-mediation techniques.
Upon successful completion of the session, participants will receive certification as a Certified Professional in Managing in Workplace Conflict.
Registration is only $1750 and includes double hotel occupancy, all meals and snacks, and all specialized session materials. Early Bird and Group Discounts are available.
To find out more about these very special sessions, go to www.cepoweb.com and select the conference link at the top of the page. Then select Professional Development Series 2012. There are Early Bird and Group discount specials too!

Membership Survey ResultsAs a part of Strategic Goal No. 1 for 2010-2011, the Executive Board authorized the administration of a survey to the membership through Survey Monkey. The results of that survey were distributed at the Annual Conference and are available below. Based on our current membership numbers, over 30% of the members responded, which is an excellent sampling.
The Executive Board and Survey Subcommittee reviewed the general responses and the more specific comments discovering several trends in the responses. These trends include, but are not limited to, those associated with (1) budget and economic challenges, (2) diminished travel and training budgets, (3) out of office time for training and involvement, and (4) the desire for increased webinar and online training options.
The Executive Board is committed to finding ongoing solutions to these challenges and researching options for implementation of convenient and cost-effective training as is desired by the membership.
Thank you again for taking the time to participate in the survey. You may rest assured that your voices have been heard and options for implementation are being considered.

Electronic Membership RenewalIT’S OFFICIAL – THE NEW ELECTRONIC MEMBERSHIP FORM IS LAUNCHED. Effective immediately, you may pay your 2011 membership dues electronically using PayPal. The new form captures dues as well as membership changes throughout the year. Click here to complete the Membership Directory Form and pay your dues electronically.
WHO NEEDS TO COMPLETE THIS FORM?
Anyone who is paying dues and/or anyone who wishes to be in the directory must complete the form! All dues paying members must complete the form using the PayPal buttons. Those who are non-paying but want to be included in the directory, please complete and submit the form by clicking the "Submit by eMail" button in the upper right hand corner. If you have already paid 2011 membership dues complete the form and submit by clicking "Submit by eMail" in the upper right hand corner as we need your information electronically.
HOW WILL WE REACH EVERYONE?
I know that not everyone is on listserv but this initial distribution will hit the majority. In addition, within the next day or so, the Trustees will send this form via their own email lists and we will capture more folks. Jaime Anderson, 2nd VP in charge of memberships will keep track of agencies reached and those responding and then can fill in the gaps. We will also use the data we obtained from Martin and Chapman when we first embarked on this project to fill in gaps. We will need every agency’s help – please forward to your neighboring cities to make sure they have received it. This outreach should touch everyone - probably more than once but I’d rather receive it multiple times than not at all. And of course, it is available on the web. Once we feel confident the majority have enrolled we will build the directory and the labels – both of which will be made available to members.
HOW DOES PAYING ONLINE WORK?
If you think of it as a shopping cart much like any purchase you make on-line you will understand it. You add a membership to the cart, or multiple memberships to the cart, and at the end you pay. There are drop down menus and explanations on the form.
WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENTS CAN YOU USE?
You can pay with a credit card (personal or agency), echeck or through your own personal PayPal account. If you don’t have a credit card with your agency you can pay with your personal credit card and your agency can reimburse you. If there is absolutely NO way you can pay with any of the above, you will need to complete the form and click the "Submit by eMail" button so that we have your info for the directory, then print and mail the form with a check to the 2nd Vice President.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?
If you’ve read this and have tried registering, and are still having problems, call Wendy Klock-Johnson at (916) 808-7509 or email her at wklockjohnson(at)cityofsacramento.org. I am sure refinements will need to be made after our first time through the process but that is to be expected. Feedback is welcome. Thank you all for your patience with this project and for all of your input. A special thank you to Wendy, who spent countless hours on this project and without whom I could never have accomplished this goal. GO TEAM!
