Update: March 23, 2020

In light of Shelter-At-Home Orders, and without certainty as to when things will be back to normal, the 2020 CCAC Annual Conference has been canceled. All registrants and exhibitors will be fully refunded. Please cancel your hotel reservations individually. We look forward to seeing you at the 2021 Annual Conference at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Palm Springs, April 14 - April 16, 2021 (Pre-Conference April 13).

Good Afternoon Clerk Colleagues,

Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this constantly evolving situation. We understand that there have been a lot of questions about the upcoming CCAC conference. Be ensured that the Board is working on this daily, and we promise to have a firm answer soon. As you all understand, this situation changes day-to-day and we want to make sure we take into consideration many important factors including the personal health and safety of our members, but also fiscal responsibility for the association. Please know that we have your best interest in mind and will get you an update within the next few days. Thank you again for your continued support. 

Update: March 6, 2020

CCAC promised to keep you informed of the Association’s response to the current public health situation with regard to the evolving COVID-19 Coronavirus.

I have heard from many of you with concerns regarding the upcoming conference and what is CCAC’s response. I want to update you on what we have been doing.

First, I want to acknowledge that this is a tough situation especially for all the hardworking committee members and volunteers who have been working on this conference for over a year. I want to shout out to them a sincere thank you!

CCAC leadership is doing everything we can to make good decisions and our due diligence has included:

  • Monitoring the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updates (using this source to separate out media scare from facts).
  • Sourcing to our own state and regional health departments officers and their updates.
  • In addition, we have been in contact with our partners at the League of California Cities and IIMC; our contracted services for the conference from hotel to conference facilitation to insurance providers to exhibitors to speakers. You can see there are a lot of moving parts in putting on a conference.
  • We have sought advice from other association’s and their processes for decision making in this situation.
  • We have shared advice from our individual city’s responses.

We want to make a fully informed decision as we move forward so to that end the CCAC board is meeting Tuesday, March 10, 2020 to evaluate the information we have gleaned and discuss how to manage this decision.

We have a follow-up meeting with our conference hotel on March 16, 2020.

I anticipate providing information to the entire CCAC membership on March 17, 2020 about our responses and next steps.

I know many of you are anxious about this situation, and I am too. We are in negotiations with everyone involved in the conference and I want to reassure you that we are interested in doing the right thing. Public safety is always our first concern and our approach is to do it as thoroughly and thoughtfully as possible.

I would like to add that I thank each of you for your care and concern for your own community as we deal with this evolving situation, which seems to change hourly. I know your efforts are extraordinary and that you are being a difference-maker in your own community with communication, responsiveness and by showing the calm!

I will be back in touch by March 17, or sooner if there are updates before then.
