Position: Chief Deputy City Clerk
Salary: $6,319 - $8,500 Monthly

Position Summary

This position works in the Office of the City Clerk and oversees the operations of the office of the City Clerk; researches and analyzes a wide variety of complex information regarding City policies, procedures and ordinances; assists in maintaining official municipal records and monitoring publication of official City notices; assists in the conduct of election activities and provides complex administrative assistance to the City Clerk.


Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience performing complex administrative duties which included:

  • Three (3) years of experience working in a City Clerk's office, or similar agency, interacting with a Council, Boards, Commissions, and executive staff; and
  • Two (2) years' of experience supervising or leading staff is required.


  • Associates degree in public or business administration, records management, or a closely related field or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities is required. (Education may be substituted on a year for year basis with related job experience, experience is in addition to any other required experience.) 
  • A Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, records management, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is preferred. 

License or Certificates: 

  • Possession of a current Certified Municipal Clerk Certification through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) is preferred.
  • Possession of a current California Public Notary Commission issued from the California Secretary of State is preferred.
